In the April Glamour there is an idea for a "different" bridal shower that I thought I'd share with the net. If someone you know is getting married this summer and they are in a different state and you want to do something for them in terms of a shower, hold a recipe shower. Send invitations, a note of explanation, and an empty recipe card to friends of the couple. Have them share their favorite recipe and send it back to you. You collect all the recipes and send them to the bride with a copy of the invitation. Not only will the couple have a bunch of good recipes to start, but each recipe will be hand-written by their friends. I'm planning to do this with my best friend in Tennessee who is getting married in July. In some stores, you can find a 'recipe kit' - 20 recipe cards, recipe box, and dividers for under $10. So it's a nice, inexpensive, and unique way to hold a shower. Laura Glass unc!dunc
