We have what must be an ancient version of Kermit for our Sun system. The version line read "C-Kermit, 4C(057) 31 Jul 85, 4.2 BSD". When attempting a file transfer with a BBS, it appears to work, but the resulting file ends up the wrong size and the high bit appears to be stripped (I did use 8 bits, no parity, binary file mode). Is there a newer version that fixes this problem, or am I doing something wrong? Since that didn't work, I tried compiling Pcomm version 1.1 (dated 21 Aug 88). After fixing a minor NULL pointer problem, I can hammer the thing into working -- but there are quite a few problems: shared memory doesn't work (this is probably Sun's fault), gets a "shmget: Invalid argument" error the pcomm_input program occasionally dies after a file xfer pcomm_input sometimes takes a LONG time to come to life after a file transfer pcomm_input is never wait()ed for so they all hang around until you exit pcomm (this may be a SYSV/BSD problem) I can't get ymodem xfers to work at all screens get corrupted (using files as the virtual screen) xmodem transfers appear to get confused permanently once you confuse it once (i.e. trying to use an xmodem that can only transfer using checksums appears to screw up pcomm permanently) Overall, pcomm looks like a very useful tool. It is the only program I could find to work at all for transferring binary files from a BBS to a Unix system. BTW, our Suns run SunOS3.2. Any help would be greatly appreciated... -- - uucp: {rutgers, ames}!rochester!srs!matt Matt Goheen - - internet: matt@srs.uucp OR matt%srs.uucp@harvard.harvard.edu - - "We had some good machines, but they don't work no more." -
