Has anyone used ground turkey? Can you pretty much substitute if for hamburger? I bought some for the first time, since I had a coupon for it; I stuck it in the freezer and am not sure what to do with it.

I have used Ground turkey as a general substitute for hamburger. I am have made several things which use combinations of ground meat, such as meatballs and meatloaf, and had pretty good results. The main difference is that turkey does not contain as much fat as hamburger so it can get pretty dry and fall apart if you are not careful. Combinations of ground pork and turkey seem to work well in a meatloaf. Turkey burgers worked allright too, but you need to add an egg to hold them together. A friend said she substituted ground turkey for beef in tacos and was very pleased with the results. Something different and much less fattening.

It should work just fine in meatloaf (assuming you add lots of tasty stuff to your meatloaf when you're mixing it) and, as was mentioned elsewhere, in tacos. John Levine, ima!johnl
