[comp.sources.wanted] Unix/Xenix Serial Performance Testing S/W?

toppin@melpar.UUCP (Doug Toppin) (08/17/89)

Is anyone aware of existing software that will send serial data on one
end and receive it on the other and note character loss/corruption?
I don't want to resend I just want to see if any data was lost.
We have a custom piece of hardware that is attached via a serial
line to a PC/AT running IBM Xenix 2 and are experiencing character
loss problems. There is no validation/resend protocol between
the two and if we are not ready to read from the device
(typically 8K burst transfers every 15-30 seconds) we lose the data
or it gets partially read.
We are using a Digiboard card now and are going to evaluate a Frontier
card with a custom driver soon.
We have done similar tests in the past by attaching a terminal that
can do a block write of 8K to a waiting 'cat' on the processor
and then examined what 'cat' got.
If anyone is aware of a better way that is between free and cheap
cost-wise please let me know.
