[comp.sources.wanted] Seeking "type" program by Jeff Glass, formerly of MITRE

rodgers@cca.ucsf.edu (Rick Rodgers) (08/20/89)

Dear Netlanders,

We have lost the source to a program which may or may not have been
net-distributed. It is called "type," and is attributed to Jeff Glass,
formerly of MITRE.  We have tried to contact Jeff at MITRE, but without luck;
he appears to have moved on. We also can not find it in the standard
archives. The program allows root to type commands on other ttys, and has
been handy in certain situations. We have renamed it "force" locally
(man page appended). Please send any pointers directly to me by e-mail.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Rick Rodgers (rodgers@maxwell.mmwb.ucsf.edu)

FORCE(1L)              LOCAL USER COMMANDS              FORCE(1L)

NAME
     force - display and execute command on another tty

SYNOPSIS
     force [-n] [terminal] [command]

DESCRIPTION
     Force displays (and, in the absence of the -n option) exe-
     cutes command on the terminal process terminal. Ordinary
     users can apply this command only  to  their  own  terminal;
     root can exercise the command on any terminal (examples of
     valid terminal specifications: /dev/ttyj4 or ttyj4 or j4.  A
     space is appended after each command except the last); com-
     mands may contain '0n', '[tbnr]' and '^[SQC]' escapes (exam-
     ples of valid commands: logout or jobs > /dev/console).

OPTIONS
     -n Display command without appending a newline, which has
          the effect of not executing it; if the user at the ter-
          minal then types a newline, the command will be exe-
          cuted.

FILES
     /usr/local/bin/force
          executable file
