[comp.sources.wanted] comm procedures to communicate with dbms

tac@sei.cmu.edu (Timothy Coddington) (10/16/89)

I have a database application that has to have some communication
capability. Basically, there are two separate PC systems, both
running a dedicated Dbase application. They need to share data over
comm line made of modems and phone lines.

The question I have is this, what commercial or PD software is
available for performing the comm function. I want the interface
to the comm s/w to be programatic (procedures I can customize and call,
w/o user interaction). True, serial i/o is simple and it could be
easily and quickly written, but I want to use a more standard transfer
protocol, such as Xmodem/CRC, Kermit etc. Something that will handle
	retransmission etc.

Note that the "data" may not necessarily come from a file. I'd also
like to send a given number of bytes from a particular address in
	memory.

I greatly appreciate any information that helps me solve my
	problem.

	Thanks in advance

Adcomm99 (which is available from the Programmer's Connection) can do what
you're looking for. We've got one here and it has just what you're looking
for. Cheap too - only around $99 US or so.

note - I am in now way connected with Adcomm, Programmer's connection, or
any fragmentation thereof. I just had their stuff in house and it works.
