The latest IBM-PC/MS-DOS UUPC is available for download at van-bc.UUCP at (604) 939-47{82,56} in the file "interim.arc". Call at 1200 or 2400 baud and use the login name "guest" with the password "guest", then issue the "help" command at the shell prompt for on-line help. Depending on which speed you call in at, you might have to press the return key a few times to get to the login prompt. The 939-4782 number also supports the Telebit TrailBlazer Plus' PEP mode at 9600 baud. The guest login above supports [XYZ]modem, if you would like to call in via UUCP, use the login "nuucp", and password "nuucp", instead. The name of the file in this case is "~/uupc/interim.arc". This interim distribution contains both sources and binaries, and is dated May/88. This version is newer than the official 1.0 distribution posted last summer, and is also the base where the current 2.0 work started from. There is currently no UUPC mailing list. (We had one, and hope that someday we will have one again.) ...Sam (UUPC release 2.0 co-ordinator) -- Samuel Lam {alberta,watmath,uw-beaver,ubc-vision}!ubc-cs!van-bc!skl

This is an addendum to what I said in <1873@van-bc.UUCP>.
In that article, I wrote:
>The latest IBM-PC/MS-DOS UUPC is available for download at van-bc.UUCP ...
What I forgot to say was how long the file in question, "interim.arc",
is, so that people can figure out approximately how much phone time the
transfer is going to take before they call. Here is the information:
The file "interim.arc" is 184,028 bytes long, and should be transfered
in "binary" mode if you are using [XYZ]MODEM. It will take around 30
minutes at 1200 baud, about 15 mintues at 2400 baud, and around four (4)
minutes if you call in with Telebit Trailblazer Plus' PEP mode at 9600
baud or higher.
Also a reminder to the direct UUCP callers that the directory the
"interim.arc" file is in is "~/uupc", not "~/uucp" .

Just to let you know - I downloaded the file, it worked the first time, good jobthere Sam. One thing I noticed is that there are two MAIL.EXE and two UUIO.EXE. You might delete one copy of each to make the archive smaller.

Is this new archive available via FTP? If not, is it possible to make it available, say on uunet.uu.net? Thanks, Lee

The interim version of UUPC recently announced to Usenet is available via standard anonymous FTP from SIMTEL20.ARMY.MIL [26.0.0.74]. Would anyone know of a program available for MS-DOS that would allow a person to write mail and then send it via UUCP to a Unix/Xenix site and receive mail as well??? I have heard there are some packages available but some sound like mail exchange type programs. What I am after is a package that could allow an everyday PC user to send/receive UUCP mail with a local Xenix/Unix site running UUCP. All replies welcome, please do not send sources. Check on the EXEC-PC system in Milwaukee. Their UNIX and DOS download sections have several versions of the UUCP and UUPC programs.

Do you know if this program can be posted to the net?? Under one of the various IBM-PC newsgroups. If you do post it or some other kind person posts either a source or binary to a newsgroup can you please mail me and let me know. Please DO NOT send either binaries or sources to me via mail, I get charged rather high rates for receiving stuff from the USA. Regards, Mark Gregson
