One of my coworkers called me to ask if I knew about any troff to postscript converters. Naturally, this is a subject I haven't paid attention to. (If I had, he wouldn't have asked. :-) Anyway, I vaguely recall reading of such a beastie. If anyone has knowledge of same would you please send me e-mail? I'll summarize if there is any interest. BTW, he'll be wanting to run this on a Sun 386, or maybe a Sun 4, and he can't spend $7K for eroff. --- Bill { uunet | novavax | ankh | sunvice } !twwells!bill bill@twwells.com

Eroff for the 386i is $1,295, not $7,000. Elan's ditroff->PS driver alone is $863.

I'll have to take your word for it. I think he said 7K. Of course,
since his native language is Chinese (don't ask which one, I don't
know), I could easily have misheard. Whatever, he can't get the
money for it.
BTW, I've got lots of information now, so there is no further
need for responses.
Thanks all.

There is a "freeware" ditroff to PostScript translator that works just fine. The name of the package is "tpscript" and was written by Stephen Frede (then with UNSW). It was posted to net.sources a couple of years ago. I think it was also reposted at least once. Somesite near you will probably have it in the archives. If you can't find anybody willing to send it to you, you could ask me to do so. Cheers, Axel. -- Axel Mahler, Tech.Univ. Berlin UUCP: axel@coma.uucp (unido!coma!axel) BITNET: axel@db0tui62.bitnet

There's also a thing called thack (troff hack). I don't have the latest version, but it should be pretty good, since the original was at least usable. -- bill davidsen - sysop *IX BBS and Public Access UNIX davidsen@sixhub.uucp ...!uunet!crdgw1!sixhub!davidsen "Getting old is bad, but it beats the hell out of the alternative" -anon
