Hello NetLanders; I would like to set up a 'public' bbs system for our network, using ethernet/tcp-ip for: BSD4.2, BSD4.3 & Sun UNIX 4.2 Release 3.5. systems. I have heard of SBBS, a set of shell scripts that perform quite well, and XBBS, a bbs system written in C. I am not familiar with the functionality of these two packages, sooooo...... What I am looking for is something that would have provisions for: - File sharing/archiving (with features to do ethernet transfer via rcp or ftp) - A message/conference base (with subject tread traceability) - A chat facility (more than 2 users would be nice but not required, we do have the 'talk' utility, and live with the 4.2&Sun <-> 4.3 failure to communicate) - Have hooks to use smtp mail (send & work with spool and mbox's) - Use the system /etc/passwd file rather than a separate base (although an accounting file with record of access/activity would be nice) - Non-exotic Unix network features (we *ahem* don't use nfs, yellow pages etc...) would be more desirable than dialup features since it'll be ~99% ethernet access. ......I could go on describing the dream bbs, but I'll gladly accept whatever you can provide. If some kind soul has something that they are pleased with and would like to share, I'd be *most grateful*. aTdHvAaNnKcSe! -- Ray E.
