In message <18799@cc.usu.edu> I asked for information about public domain (or freely copyable) graphing programs for the sun. For anyone interested, here's a summary of replies so far. If you know a good graphing program that's not listed here, I'd still like to hear about it. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ In response to your query for a graphing tool for your Sun. You might try grtool - it is available via anonymous ftp from cse.ogi.edu [129.95.40.2]. It is still in beta test (and given the time I have to spend on it, may always be), but is widely used and is known to be useful. What do you mean when you say 'supports Tektronix', Tek 40xx, Tek41xx, printer, plotter? While drivers for Tek products are not included with the distribution they are available. Grtool requires SunOS 4.0 or greater, which can be a problem if you are running 3.5 or less. There is a curses version that is compatible with grtool that does run under older versions of SunOS. Grtool is located in pub/grtool/grtool-1.03beta.tar.Z, remember to set mode to binary. While I haven't officially released 1.03 I would use it over 1.02. Paul J. Turner - pturner@cse.ogi.edu -------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is vopl (Very Ordinary Plotting Library) which includes a graph plotting program. It runs on suns, apollos, X11, TEK, POSTSCRIPT and PC's. It does autoaxis scaling, log-log etc and has a variety of fitting options. It needs another package called vogle (Very ordinary graphics learning environment) as this has the basic graphics drivers for all the different devices. To get this stuff: anonymous ftp to munnari.OZ.AU (128.250.1.21) set binary mode, get pub/graphics/vogle.tar.Z and pub/graphics/vopl.tar.Z Bernie (bernie@murtoa.cs.mu.OZ.AU, bernie@munnari.OZ.AU) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would like to recommend that you go to the amiga.source archives and there is a library of graphing programs called plplot. I have installed these on our system of SUNs and uVAXs, and I have had no problems. Not only is all the source code public domain, but the drivers are very easy to write (Xfig took 1/2 hour). It supports 2d and 3d graphs, meshes, log axes, etc. If you need mroe info, check the amiga.sources archives, or contact me. Tracey Bernath University of Waterloo Waterloo Ontario CANADA -------------------------------------------------------------------------- the latest and greatest gnuplot is under pre-beta release testing here. my officemate is incorporating many of the features of the old gnuplot and his improved gnutex, which did latex plots very well. the new version does nifty things like polar plots, and has drivers for MANY display devices. i don't know when he plans on releasing the beta-test version. probably within a month. the final version may take a while before it gets out. you will definitely hear about it when it is released.
