[comp.sources.wanted] Wanted: SLIP

cory@mit-caf.MIT.EDU (Cory Myers) (03/14/90)

I am trying to setup a connection between our main SUN and a nearby
office with two SUNS using modems. I understand that SLIP (Serial
Line IP) may do the trick. I would like the following capabilities:

1. The two sites each have their own network but any machine on either
network can see any machine on the other network, i.e. I do not want
to limit it to two machines. Does SLIP allow the two connected SUNs
to act as gateways?

2. Ability to explicitly ask for dial-up and to disconnect the line,
i.e. the line will not be in use all the time and I want to keep the
phone bills down. Dial as needed and hangup when not in use would be
ideal (wishful thinking?).

Can someone please send me information on SLIP (or any other useful
software), specifically, what it does and where to get it.

Thanks in advance,

sunos slip can be had from cs.toronto.edu (slipware.tar)
and sunos compressed slip (the van jacobsen stuff)
from ftp.ee.lbl.gov. I dunno about dial-up in these
packages.
