[net.cooks] Sugarless Jams and Jellies

roxier@tekchips.UUCP (Roxie Rochat) (10/04/83)

Has anyone used Low Methoxyl Pectin to make no sugar or low sugar jelly?
I have a catalog from Walnut Acres in Pennsylvania. They want $5.68 for 8
oz. of the Low Methoxyl Pectin which they claim makes about 50 pints of
jelly. Their shipping and handling to Oregon for that one item would be
$5.80. Pretty expensive unless I know that it's worth it. Are there other
suppliers?

You can buy low-methoxy pectin at the First Alternative Co-Op in Corvallis...
It is sold in bulk for a very good price (which I can't remember off-hand).

I am not sure where you could get it closer to Beaverton (?)... but I would
be willing to bet that "Food Front" (a food store in Portland... 23rd and
Glisan? or somewhere in that neighborhood) also sells it.
