[net.cooks] Machine-readable nutrition table

neal@druxv.UUCP (10/11/83)

Does anyone have an on-line table of the nutritional content
of common foods? I'm interested in analyzing my diet
for carbohydrates, protein, fat (saturated/unsaturated), sodium,
fiber, etc (anything I can!). Even a limited database would
be of interest.
A good analysis program would be neat too. How about something
to calculate how the various quantities of amino acids in various
protein sources complement each other (in relation to "balanced"
protein sources like eggs), ala that wonderful book
"Diet for a Small Planet"?

Tried mail but couldn't get through.
There is a database like you want put out (I think) by the US Dept Agriculture.
My wife is using it for her DR. Pub. Health dissertation. She is accessing it
on an IBM 3081 using TSO. I can try to find out more about it if you're
interested.
