[comp.sources.wanted] Distributed programming systems?

ggw@wolves.uucp (Gregory G. Woodbury) (04/11/90)

I am interested in finding some pointers to information about sharing
computational resources (especially number crunching) in a distributed
environment. What I have is a network of MC88000 based workstations
that I would like to have any or all of them participate in
calculating some part or portion of an iterative analysis program.

I have heard some reports of a system called Linda, but lack any real
references. All pointers would be appreciated.

2. I see occasional references to a journal by the name of "Software
Practice and Experience". Who publishes this and is there another
name by which I might recognize it? (e.g. SIGPLAN something or other?)

Gregory,

look in comp.parallel or comp.sys.isis. Tannenbaum's Amoeba
might suit your needs, check comp.archives for the place
where the papers that form the Amoeba book is archived. And
make sure you ask in comp.sys.m88k where the 88000 experts
hang out.
