[comp.sources.wanted] Wanted: Definition of DIF file format

GMoretti@massey.ac.nz (Giovanni Moretti) (07/03/90)

I need to find the spec's for the DIF file format, preferably online as
ordering books from New Zealand is expensive and slow (3-5 months delivery).
Magazine references would also be appreciated.

If you can point me at a definition of the spec, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
Giovanni

I have a good book called "The DIF File", by Donald H. Beil, published
in 1983 by Reston Publishing Company, Reston, VA 22090 (A Prentice-Hall
Company). The book covers the mechanisms of data interchange using
DIF format and various software packages. It also includes such
chapters as "Guidlines for using DIF" , and "A tutorial on DIF", and
includes lots of diagrams, etc. to explain the use of the DIF format.

An appendix of this book is called the "DIFF Technical Specification",
and has been reproduced from the original (c) 1983 by Software Arts
Products Corp. (the DIF trademark holders). (The title page of
this appendix names something called "DIF Clearninghouse", PO Box 368,
Newton Lower Falls, MA 02162. If you can't locate this book, then
perhaps you can locate the Technical Specs under that name...

BTW, the book also has a lengthy bibliography on the DIF file format.
(I bought the book a number of years ago, but never really used it
for any project, so I'm no DIF expert :-)

Hope this helps!
