I've just started fooling around with microwave cooking and I tried some baking potatoes last night. According to the microwave book directions, the potatoes were cooked correctly but came out very hard. Is there a trick to baking potatoes in a microwave that I don't know about? Thx, John

I don't know what you did, but I place two washed potatoes on a sheet of paper towels and cook them on high for 6-8 minutes. Then take them out and wrap them in aluminum foil for another 5 minutes. They come out perfect every time! (With more potatoes, double cooking time with double amount) B. Walsh

I have found the best way to cook potatoes is to wrap the potatoes in wax paper, it keeps them from drying out. Also after washing the skins, lightly grease them with butter and poke holes in the skins. If your 'micro is not of the later variety having either the rotowave or the rotating platter make sure to turn them every few minutes. John Wrycza

Baking potatoes in a microwave reminds you of this; the other ingredient in "cooked" is time. Let them sit a while and they get better. (And you may have to adjust the microwave time with a few experiments.) Donn Terry ...hplabs!hp-dcd!donn
