I would like the source code ( a PD version ) for the Unix "crypt()" ROUTINE, not the command. Just point me in the right direction or send me e-mail. When you are blasting a dictionary against the /etc/password file looking passwords crypt is either very poorly written or has a "slow down loop of 1/2 to 1 second. We have a system with VME-based PCs acting as the operator interface to a unix-based system. We would like to be able (for security reasons) to generate the encrypted passwords on the PCs, rather than passing them in the open.
