[comp.sources.wanted] reverse rdist?

tchrist@convex.com (Tom Christiansen) (08/02/90)

Does anyone out there have an rdist that goes the other way, that
is, one where the subscriber makes requests to a librarian and
pulls the files across rather than the master pushing them at the
clients? I don't want the subscribers to have the librarian
machine(s) in their /.rhosts files, either.

thanks a lot.

Yes - the name of the program is 'track'. I think it originated at
Bellcore, but one place you can get it by anonymous ftp is from
athena-dist.mit.edu. They have hacked with it some for Project
Athena purposes, but I think you'll find it usable. (I'm not
an expert on this - we just started trying to learn to use it.)

You can also get a version by anonymous ftp from cs.toronto.edu in
pub/track.tar.Z. It is also hacked from the BellCore version.
