I'm writing a program that will allow Apple II computers using a BBS system called ProLine to communicate with Unix machines running my networking program. This will allow bidirectional exchange of both mail and news. The problem is that ProLine only supports Xmodem file transfers. I have tried to use the "xmodem" package (versions 3.4 and 3.6) as well as RZ/SZ v3.04 and UC v1.5 (based on UMODEM v3.5) with mixed results. I have been told that UMODEM v1.0 (or possibly a later version, but I don't want something like UC which offers all kinds of options -- I just want "send/receive file using Xmodem checksum") will work corretly with ProLine's version of Xmodem. Additionally, I would like to get some information about the ProDOS extension to Xmodem that is employed with ProLine. During the initial stages of transmission, the sender sends a packet the contains the file information (date created, etc) and I would like to receive this and use it if possible to keep this info intact. This is not entirely required, but it would be a nice addition. Through my account here at UCR I have FTP access through the Internet so if you know of an anonymous FTP site, that would be great. Otherwise any pointers to UMODEM would be greatly appreciated. Mail to this address or "gumby@alchemy.UUCP" is also good. -- John -- -- INET: gumby@ucrmath.ucr.edu UUCP: {ucsd, uci, ucdavis}!ucrmath!gumby "Consequences, schmonsequences, as long as I'm rich" -- Daffy Duck
