[net.cooks] microwave ovens and Al foil

thomas@utah-gr.UUCP (Spencer W. Thomas) (11/14/83)

(I figured this discussion had gone on long enough with a "potatoes" title.)

Apparently Toshiba makes a LOT of microwave ovens. I would not be
surprised at all if the Monkey Wards was one -- the large mail order
retailers always buy someone elses product and put their own name on it.
The Sears compact cube refrigerator is a Sanyo, for example. (At least,
it looks identical). A salesman once told me that Toshiba makes 80% of
the Magnetron tubes used in microwave ovens.

Hey, um, excuse me but I don't understand how a microwave oven that
would go bonkers with Al foil in it could allow you to cook tv dinners
in their native habitat. How can it tell the microwaves to penetrate all
the food and just stop short of the adjacent foil?

Mail me an answer and I'll post it here, that way you won't get 50 responses.

Do you really believe a salesman????? One told me Litton made 80% of the
magnetron tubes and annother told me Hitachi made 80% of the tubes. Guess
which brands of microwave ovens each made the biggest commission from.

RE: Metal in uWaves

	I don't know how it works, I don't even want to I don't think, all I
know is that I can put TV dinners in my uWave and it works fine. I was also
given 2 metal racks and 2 metal trays for use in my uwave (they came with
it) However, I also know that the platinum bands on my china send the uWave
into hysterics. The oven in question is by the way sold by Monty Wards.
