[net.cooks] Holiday Punch Recipes

tjk@cbneb.UUCP (12/05/83)

Does anyone have a good holiday punch recipe that is colorful and
different from the usual wine, Southern Comfort type stuff? We're
having a bash on Dec. 10 so please respond soon if you've got one.
Thanks in advance.

I found this one in a recent advertisement for Dole:

			   HOLIDAY PUNCH

2 cans (46 oz. each) Dole Pineapple Juice, chilled
2 bottles (750 mL each) dry champagne, chilled*
2 cups sweet white wine, chilled*
1/4 cup grenadine syrup
  Ice cubes
1 lemon, thinly sliced
1 orange, thinly sliced
  Mint sprigs

In a large punch bowl, mix together pineapple juice, champagne, wine,
and grenadine. Add ice cubes. Float lemon and orange slices on top.
Add mint for garnish. Makes 1-1/2 gallons.

*Can substitute 1 bottle (32 oz.) ginger ale and 1 bottle (2 liter)
carbonated lemon-lime drink for champagne and wine.

I know the article asked for punches other than the Southern Comfort stuff
BUT, does anyone have a recipe for Southern Comfort Punch?

                                          TIA,
                                          J. Barrett

Take one large can of frozem five alive and one large frozen cranberry
juice to a gallon of water and two cups of vodka. It makes a bright
but subtile punch.

This is not exactly a "holiday punch" recipe, but it has
found favor with all of those who have tried it. It may
sound a little strange, but it really is good.

			CHIMP TWIST
		Combine (preferably in a blender):
1 6-oz can frozen grapefruit juice concentrate
		1 good-sized banana
		8 oz. Gin (not Vodka)
		10-12 oz ice and water

	Try it, you'll like it!!!

Oceanographers punch:

In the lower half of a small bathysphere (a large punch bowl will do
but lacks atmosphere) place a 25 pound block of ice. Pour the
   following over it:

2 large cans of frozen lemonade
1 or 2 quart bottles of beer
   several bottles of cheap champagne
add some brandy if you like
(if you want to dress it up, you can dump in some canned fruit
   cocktail, juice and all)

As served at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, La Jolla.
