I am looking for a tool that do a reasonable job converting LaTeX
manuscripts into the format used by a one of the common microcomputer
word processors (preferably Word or WordPerfect) with things
like italics, boldface, etc. intact.
I already know about detex (converts LaTeX into plain ASCII).
