I thought that aluminum would also dissolve in alkaline solutions, also. A popular way to release hydrogen (for balloons and such) is to take a solution of lye and drop aluminum foil in it. I have seen aluminum freezer containers with holes in them from storing acidic foods (probably tomatoes). In fact, I threw away an Al measuring cup last weekend due to a hole in it. Some brands of hand lotion list aluminum (of some form) in the ingredients. And all this time I thought I went nuts in the winter due to the lack of exercise!
