Hello Pals!!!
I got a request from one of my distantly located close-friend
to help get a "script" that kills the getty/uugetty process
that runs on a serial port when not being used.
This is particularly useful on a UUCP network. You must have
realised by now as to why this is essential. For unknown reason
if the line conn. fails or a modem disconnects it as been found
that the process still runs onthe serial port, thereby
preventing others from using the machine & also giving a big
bill to the user.It is likely also that te line is blocked for
a full night.
This problem can be solved only if there is an automatic
resetting of the line by some kind of a mechanism as just said.
Is there a Unix service or utility or an option that does this?
Or is a script available ?
Please mail to me at my e-mail address only. I read the section
rarely..
