[comp.sources.wanted] need zip format

white@cg-atla.UUCP (Frank ) (10/23/90)

Can anyone tell me the format of a 'ZIP' file under DOS?
Are there any UNIX utilities to deal with these files?

On Simtel [26.2.0.74], in the UNIX archives (NOT the DOS
archives) somewhere there is:

	unzip30.tar-Z

which when uncompress-ed and un-tar-ed on the UNIX box, yields
the source and a makefile to allow the compilation of an unzipper.
You might try cd'ing on Simtel to PD2:<UNIX-C> and ls'ing
to find an info file to point to exactly where the unzip file is
stored.

The info output of the command with no args is:

UnZip: Zipfile Extract v3.0 (C) of 05-03-90; (C) 1989 Samuel H. Smith
Courtesy of: S.H.Smith and The Tool Shop BBS, (602) 279-2673.

Usage: unzip [-tcv] file[.zip] [filespec...]
  -t test member files
  -c output to stdout
-a carriage return to space conversion
-m map extracted filenames to lowercase
  -v view directory

-------------------
Good luck.

From my /pc/ts/tsfaq10.arc, concerning the latter question:

11. *****
Q: Where can I find unix sources for .arc, .lzh, .zoo, and .zip
file compression.

A: You can find Unix arc, lharc, zoo, and UNzip packages in the
/unix/ts directory at the anonymous ftp site chyde.uwasa.fi. The
instructions for processing these unix packages are in
/unix/ts/0news-u. Note that there is no zip packing yet for Unix,
only zip unpacking.

The wares are available by anonymous ftp from chyde.uwasa.fi, Vaasa,
Finland, 128.214.12.3, or by using our mail server (use the latter
if, and only if you don't have anonymous ftp). If you are not
familiar with anonymous ftp or mail servers, I am prepared send
prerecorded instructions on request (provided that your email
address is reachable).
