[comp.sources.wanted] Character Recognition

denis@lerouf.dec.com (MICHEL DENIS, @KALAMAZOO@VBO) (01/13/87)

About CHARACTER RECOGNITION :

Has anybody a list of books and publications related to character/words
recognition and its algorithms ? Also especially any piece of software which
implements some of those techniques would be useful for a start !

Thanks in advance and regards,

Michel.

I'm looking for information about character recognition.
We (Zengrange) recently bought one of those HP ScanJet thingies and us
through the back would like to use it to read in documents.

To start with there is no documentation on the how the little devil works
(standard HP marketing -- the customer won't need more than we provide, and
support is so expensive...) but that's our battle, unless someone has tackled
HP already :->

Next there are no books around on character recognition (except for some
mention in general pattern recognition books).

So if anyone out there has a list of references of some available books on
the subject and is willing to let me have them I'd be most grateful,

Or has some details on the ScanJet hardware,

Or some software which does anything in the region of character recognition,

would earn lots of brownie points by sending it all to me.

		mucho thankso,

vic (excuse the English please, I'm Scottish)

Aren't global computer networks amazin'

I'm looking for a freebie to do character recognition.
From an image, directly from a scanner, Anything! I didn't
find anything of this sort from any of the favorite places.

I need this to get 60 or so (hard copy) pages of source code
onto disk.

I've got a Howtek scanner hooked to a PC, but I'd like to hear
of anything.
