I'm looking for an archive site running a mail server, in order to get some sources I am missing from the comp.sources stuff. If someone is running such a beast and/or knows the mail address to write to, please let me know. I was used to mgse, but now it's down. Neither uunet seems to work, or maybe it's overloaded :-) so exclude these two from the list... E-mail preferred. Thanks! Rick -- Riccardo Pizzi @ ESA Software, Rimini. Same here. Either email (to the address below, not the news header address) or public posting is acceptable. Either email (to the address below, not the news header address) >or public posting is acceptable. We have mail server and some comp.sources.stuff. Here is the help file: ......................................................................... x xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx x x Welcome to University of Vaasa, Finland x x xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx x ************************** 1. MAIL SERVER INFORMATION ************************** chyde-request PC-PD archive mail server This is the help file for the mail server located on chyde.uwasa.fi This file can be requested by sending a null message or 'send help' command to hv@uwasa.fi with a subject line of 'chyde-request'. If that subject is not used, the request will not be handled properly. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- * TO REPEAT: The Subject-line of the message MUST say 'chyde-request'!! * * If it does not, I will get the mail and I will send you this file the * * first time, and delete your mail if it happens again. * ------------------------------------------------------------------------- To contact a human, make sure that 'chyde-request' is NOT in your Subject-line. The server recognizes six commands. They are: path <path to your machine> If you want to use a different mail address to return the requests you must specify it using this command. You should contact your system administrator to get the optimized path especially if you are using UUCP or BANG paths to get your mail delivered to us. Our mail server checks the mail queue every 15 minutes so if you don't get response in a reasonable time you'd better check this one out with a little help from your friends. You can use this command with or without the corner characters. AND: do remember to use your common sense when testing various addresses; because it might be a boomerang try to request a smaller ones because it is not very clever to jam the net with two mega requests which travels (at worst) two times over the Atlantic and still not get to the one who asked it. AND it can make several PostMasters unhappy while it travels. send help sends you this message. send index sends you a list of available files with descriptions send file this sends the file 'file' from the index. Remember to use filepath name if you are requesting a file from a subdirectory. That is if you want a file called fv133.zip from arcers directory you must use request 'send arcers/fv133.zip' The format for the file name when using ANONYMOUS FTP is e.g. /pc/arcers/fv133.zip This FTP format is used in most of our news announcements. IMPORTANT!!! The format for the MAIL SERVER is shorter: arcers/fv133.zip In other words omit /pc/ from the path when using our mail server. quit As a general rule, it is advisable to exclude your signature from your request to the mail-server or use this 'quit' command. 'quit' is useful if you have something in your .signature that might be interpreted as a server command. So if you wanted to retrieve '_files.in' from chyde.uwasa.fi you could send mail with 'chyde-request' as the subject-line with the body of the message being the text 'send _files.in'. For example: % mail hv@uwasa.fi Subject: chyde-request send _files.in ^D % How to extract: ----------------- The files are sent using 'mailsplit' and the files you get contain a 'joinr' script in the beginning of the first part. To get the binary files you can use that script so that you save all the parts on the same file in the right order or into the same directory as separate files and then remove the mail headers from the beginning of the first part. Then if you are running Unix you should be able to run the file by 'sh' that excecutes the 'joinr' script and when the dust has gone away you should have the binary file in the same directory where you executed the script. For a moment this can mean that you get a subdirectory although you didn't want it to come but I try to work with this one so that the problem goes away. --------- This server is based on the KISS package provided by Bill Wells (bill@twwells.com) and Jon Granrose (odin@pilot.njin.net). Many thanks for a fine package. I have included the MailSplit utilization to this package. I like to thank M F Wyle and H. Yamanaka for the wonderful program. It gave this server ability to deliver also binary files. Harri Valkama (hv@uwasa.fi) ************************************ 2. FTP and GENERAL INFORMATION ************************************ Files you find in this directory and its subdirectories are archived files. They are made by using PKPAK, PKZIP, PAK, LHARC or ZOO programs which you find also in /pc/arcers or /pc/pd2 in executable forms. --------------------------------------------------------------- PAK250.EXE, PKZ110EU.EXE, ZOO201.EXE, LH113DE.COM and PK361.EXE --------------------------------------------------------------- are self-extracting programs which produce several programs by which these archive files are made. These EXE-files contain also documentation that helps you to use these programs. If you transfer new programs to us (use ./incoming) and if they are archived by some other program please transfer also the archiving program in such a form that others can also use your programs. Incoming is unreadable BUT writable. So you are able to 'cd' into that directory and 'put' the files in. And remember to use 'binary' when uploading binary files. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ! And please drop me a mail for that I can contact the sender if I ! ! have any problems with uploaded files and/or just to thank him/her.! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See also files in directories /pc/pd2, /pc/ts, /mac and /unix See contents listing in file 'INDEX' and in 'ts' and 'pd2' subdirectories there are 0dir-ts and 0dir-pd2. Most files in pd2 are also found in other directories because I have now made links to proper categories. If you have suggestions concerning improvements of this archive site (or problems) please drop me a mail. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The directories /pc/ts and /pc/pd2 are moderated by Timo Salmi (email : ts@uwasa.fi) University of Vaasa ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Directory /unix and /vms are moderated by Hannu Hirvonen (email : hh@uwasa.fi) University of Vaasa ----------------------------------------------------------------------- You can find a short description of the programs in this directory in the file INDEX and directory listing in the file called _dir.lst and _file.lst There are also files called _files.in and _files.out which show you the names of the files that are either new (in) or that have gone (out) since 1st of the very month. For the detailed contents of the files in /pc/ts directory get the file tsarc091.txt (or whatever is the latest). See 0news-ts file for the latest news about the files in /pc/ts. See /pc/pd2/0dir-pd2 for information of unpacking if you are not familiar with the standard PC unpacking methods. -- == Harri Valkama, University of Vaasa, Finland ================================ P.O.
