=== Sour Milk Chocolate Cake ===

This is a very easy and very tasty chocolate cake recipe.

Blend:
1/2	cup	shortening (oil e.g. Mazola, Wesson)
1-1/2	cup	sugar (regular refined white stuff)

Mix & add:
	2-1/2	cup	flour
	1/2	cup	cocoa
	1-1/2	tsp	baking soda
	1	tsp	salt

Add:
	1	cup	sour milk
	1	tsp	vanilla

Add:
	1/2	cup	boiling water.

Mix thoroughly and bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees. Results in
scrumptios chocolate cake.

Note: If you don't happen to have any old sour milk, or if you want
to do it the easy way (actually, I've never tried real honest-to-goodness
sour milk), a cup of sour milk may be created by pouring out a cup of
milk when you start and adding a little vinegar or lemon concentrate
(a tsp or so); then let it stand until you need it.

Re: Sour Milk Chocolate Cake

You left out the (1 oz.) bottle of red food coloring and the
gooey coconut icing (like that found on German choc. cake).
At least that's the way we've always made in my family,
where it's known as Red Holiday Cake or just Red Cake.
Used to have it every Thanksgiving -- good stuff.

BTW, if anyone else has this recipe (Red Holiday Cake), could you
please MAIL to me your version, along with any story you may know
about connected with the recipe? Thanks.
