Could someone kindly point me to an anonymous ftp site (with details) for a DOS version of tar? If anyone knows of the old "software tools" (UNIX look alike environment) for DOS, this would be handy as well. Please respond via e-mail to rwl@ee.umr.edu and I will summarize back to the list. Thanks,

This is a summary to my query for a tar & general unix tools for DOS. I found 4 tar programs for MSDOS on wuarchive.wustl.edu [128.252.135.4], which has a mirror of the simtel20 archives. The one we got to work to transfer files & directories between our Sun Sparcstation (i.e. make a tar file of a directory structure, binary ftp it to the DOS machine, and untar it), was the file in /mirrors/msdos/filutl/tar.zip (Obviously, one must "unzip" the file to use it on DOS.) There are also a large number of unix-like tools for MSDOS on the same machine in /mirrors/msdos/gnuish (This is an unofficial port of stuff from the GNU project to MSDOS.) Thanks to: Jeff Jenness (jeffj@mcs213k.cs.umr.edu) Raymond Chen (raymond@math.berkeley.edu) who suggested looking in wsmr-SIMTEL20.army.mil for MS-DOS stuff and one more I've lost, sorry :-( -- Wayne Little Internet: rwl@ee.umr.edu Phone: (314) 341-4546 USPS: Univ. of Missouri-Rolla, EE Dept., Rolla, MO 65401 "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones" Solomon
