I am having a little problem with the definition of even parity.
Looking in four computer/math dictionaries I found two different
definitions that weren't really to the point of interest and two
that did not list the word. The problem is this, if a document
states
"bit 8 is even parity for bits 7 through 0"
it is my understanding that the total of all the bits 8 through 0
should be an even number. Example:
bit 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1
value 1 0 0 1 1 1 0 0
Is this correct? If not, please tell me the correct definition.
Specific documented references would be appreciated. Please
reply by email to davef@videovax.tv.tek.com
Thanks in advance for your help.
