I'm new to the net and need info on PD/Commercial packages that will allow me to run a unix shell on my PS2/55SX. I'm looking for a command interpreter that will give me aliasing, and command repetition (like !#, !!, etc). I am currently using CED for aliasing and command editing, but it won't do the history. I'm currently looking at the MKS Toolkit which includes ksh (the Korn shell) for dos, vi, awk, and many unix utilities like df, ls, rm, etc. Rumor has it that MKS took code written by the Free Software Foundation and remarketed it as a commercial product. There has also (apparently) been a new release of the FSF's unix tools for dos since MKS made their Toolkit available. Any information about the FSF's version of this code and where I could get it would be greatly appreciated. I'm also interested in an evaluation of the tools, the MKS Toolkit, and any comments on these tools vs Coherent. I don't know anything about Coherent other than that I think it's another unix look-alike for dos. Please respond via email to lbabb@eagle.afit.af.mil. I'll post a summary if there's enough interest. The simplest thing to do might be to point me to an archive where this info is stored, or to mail me old postings if this has already been covered. a T d H v A a N n K c S e - Larry Babb
