[comp.sources.wanted] I desperately need screen for an IBM RS/6000...help

prt7u@holmes.acc.Virginia.EDU (Peter R. Thorsen Jr) (02/24/91)

Hello folks,

I have a real dilemma on my hands. I have recently moved my account on
to an IBM RS/6000. Here is the dilemma part:

I miss not having screen around to help me out. I had no idea that I
had become so dependent on this program. Has anyone ported this software
to an RS/6000? Is anybody currently trying to port it to an RS/6000?

If either of the above statements are true can some kind sole put me
in touch with them or at least let me know where I can find the program.

I'm in a desperate situation here folks.

Please reply via e-mail with any info on this subject.

Thanks in advance,

Pete

I don't know of any ports and haven't used the program since I left
school where it was a lifesaver for multiple compile edit sessions, if
this is the screen for multi windows on ASCII terminals.

Anyway, grepping through the uunet index, the latest screen I could
find resides as:

comp.sources.unix/volume9/xscreen/screen-2.1.tar.Z

in the anonymous FTP directories on uunet.uu.net

It could probably be found on any comp.sources.unix archive site as
well.

If you are willing to accept something a bit lighter, look up the
"Session Manager" posting I made over the winter in alt.sources.
I have compiled it on a PS/2 and a S/6000 with good results.

It has one advantage over "screen" and "wm" in that it doesn't
emulate any kind of terminal, so it is more efficient. And besides,
I wrote it so I have to promote it ;-)
