An extract from /pc/ts/tsfaq17.arc (available by anonymous ftp from our site). 11. ***** Q: Where can I find Unix sources for .arc, .lzh, .zoo, and .zip file compression. A: You can find Unix arc, lharc, zoo, and UNzip packages in the /unix/ts directory at the anonymous ftp site garbo.uwasa.fi. The instructions for processing these unix packages are in /unix/ts/0news-u. Note that there is no zip packing yet for Unix, only zip unpacking. Many users have also inquired about the source code for making .zip files, but I don't think PkWare has released this information. Work is, however, under way for a zip for Unix. ................................................................... Generic zip is still in beta testing and probably won't be released for two or three months. Generic unzip, v4.01, is available on Simtel and its mirror sites as unzip401.{arc|tar-z}; it's scattered around various directories, including [msdos.zip], [misc.vaxvms], and (I think) [misc.unix]. Version 4.1 is due out shortly and, Info-ZIP moderator willing and able, will be posted to either c.s.unix or c.s.misc (probably the former).

The program you are looking for comes in the self-extracting archive PKZ110.EXE, where you probably got PKZIP and PKUNZIP. It is called ZIP2EXE. Simply type "ZIP2EXE <zipfile>" and it creates a self-exracting .EXE file. It's recommended that you only distribute files like this if you feel it's really necassary, though (distrubuting an archiver is an obvious example).

Apologies... I mis-read the question about self-extracting files, and it seems I can't cancel my reply...
