[net.music] Is there a newsgroup for classical music?

wexel (01/06/83)

...or is it just that there is noone interested?

Yes, there is, and this is it. To stimulate discussion I'd like to
conduct a poll: What is/are your favorite recorded performance(s) of
the Beethoven symphonies, both individual symphonies and complete cycles?
So as not to exclude any era, please respond in 3 categories:
	1) mono recordings
	2) stereo recordings
	3) best overall performances, regardless of era or recording quality

Please send responses to iwsl4!gayde or ihuxp!gayde and I will, of course,
post a summary.

Regarding the proposal for a classical music newsgroup:
I don't know ... I'm interested. But is Cage 'classical' -- that's where
you will find what Cage there is in record stores in record stores. What
about Chas. Ives? etc ...
We already have net.records, net.music, net.audio ... . Net.audio discusses
equipment, audiophile experience recordings, etc. Net.music seems to be
concerned with compositions in the newer genres. Net.records occaisionally
has a classical discussion ... and since we are usually talking about
new or special RECORDINGS of classical music ( whatever ``classical'' means )
that might be the place for it ...
