[comp.sources.wanted] I need the metconfig sources

sscott@fwhnm02.fwrdc.rtsg.mot.com (Steve Scott) (03/19/91)

Can anyone point me to a US ftp site for the metaconfig sources? I know
that jyu.fi has this program but I do not want to tie up international
lines.

Thanks in advance,

Alternatively, you could check the comp.sources.unix index on uunet.uu.net
(although you would have to know to look for "config" or "configure" instead
of "metaconfig") and you would find, in volume 16:

dist2/part[01-07]	Larry Wall's Configure generator, etc.
dist2/patch1 Larry Wall's Configure generator, etc.
dist2/patch2 Larry Wall's Configure generator, etc.

and how pray tell are you supposed to know that this package is
"metaconfig" ? not obvious to me.

if you are me (and you aren't) you just run my 'homely' script that
plucks stuff out of a database that I keep of packages and their home
sites. it's used to produce comp.archives; you could derive it from
comp.archives postings by inspecting the "Archive:" and "Archive-name"
headers.

	 <emv@msen> homely -s metaconfig
	 jpl-devvax.jpl.nasa.gov /pub/dist.2.0/

(oh, I cheated a bit here, I didn't have this in the database...)

P.S. You posted your request twice. Tsk, tsk.

give the poor guy a break, you don't have to be so superior.

If you have telnet access, then telnet to quiche.cs.mcgill.ca, log in as
"archie" (no password), and then type "prog metaconfig". If you don't, then
send mail to "archie@quiche.cs.mcgill.ca" with "prog metaconfig" in the text
of the message. Both of these will give you a list of archive sites from
which you can get metaconfig.

Alternatively, you could check the comp.sources.unix index on uunet.uu.net
(although you would have to know to look for "config" or "configure" instead

dist2/patch1 Larry Wall's Configure generator, etc.
dist2/patch2 Larry Wall's Configure generator, etc.

So, uunet.uu.net is one place from which you could ftp metaconfig (in
/comp.sources.unix/volume16/dist2).
