Backups are important, we all know, but ... A lot of people propably wrote software too, to stream line the backup process to their personal needs. What we are looking for is a complete set of backup utilities, which are capable of: 1) Unattended backups for a long period of time e.g. for 8mm media. (Multiple backups on the same tape) 2) Selectable backup schemes, at least incremental and full dumps. 3) Backup process writes directly to tape without large intermediate file space requirements. 4) Extensive selection of to be backuped parts of filesystems. (remote fs as well). 5) Backup tapes should be self-contained. (tapes should contain table of contents, and explenation of how to retrieve, or better scripts that do the actual retrieval.) 6) On-line (on disk) table of contents of each backup tape. 7) Backup -tape identification, which prevents accidently overwritting a none backup tape which were in the drive. 8) many more -- Name: Eugene Bogaart | Software Engineering Research Centre Email: bogaart@serc.nl | Lange Viestraat 365 3511 BK Utrecht Phone: +31 30 32 26 40 | P.box 424 3500 AK Utrecht Fax: +31 30 34 12 49 | The Netherlands --------------------------------------------------------------- Home phone:+31 838051889 | De Wiek 93, 6712 JC Ede
