The liquid seems to remain somewhat more distributed, rather than move to the top of the cottage cheese. I do the same with peanut butter...Smucker's as bought from the groc will have a thick layer of oil on top. I mix it up once, then turn over after using to (hopefully) keep the oil more distributed.
