Ok folks I have some stupid beginer questions, well, because I'm a beginner. I did read the 'freak. asked Qs' on Comp.Graphics - didn't help. Here's what I want to know : what does the real world use? I am here at the University of Louisville in Louisville, Kentucky on a VAX cluster using VMS 5.41. We have an Ultrix machine with Unix - but it doesn't get used (YES! there are places that DONT use Unix as a mainstay. In fact almost no one outside the engineering school knows unix). UofL is also an IBM school, thus our PCs are IBM. Specifically: 1) How do Gifs, etc. get scanned in, digitized, etc (I am looking for types of scanners, cameras, and whatever else is used). 2) How does one go about printing gifs,etc (I have GIFPUB 3.0, but I'm not impressed). 3) What is a good program to 'edit' picture files (paint programs, etc). 4) I have a concept of what bitmaps are, but how do you go about decoding them? 5) Are there any FTP sites that any good utilities are available at? 6) Last thing - I use VUIMG 2.5.1, I like it. What else is out there, possibly better?
