Does anyone have a general purpose matrix inversion
routine preferrably written in C or know where I
may be able to get one?

Have a look in netlib: send e-mail of the form

send index
send index from c

you'll get back two files, the first giving a description of the system
and how to use it and the second providing information on what's available
in C.
