In my haste to aid some margarita-deprived netter(s), I forgot to mention
the triple sec! Sorry! Mil perdones and all that. Add:
Use about 1/2 - 3/4 oz. triple sec - that is, about half a shot.
You have to balance the amount of sweetening against the amount of
lime and how sweet your triple sec is. (You may not need any at
all.)
And a note on this - some people substitute Grand Marnier for triple sec.
I consider that pretentious (just an opinion; no flames please) because if
you use decent triple sec, you won't notice that much difference. It's
hard to appreciate the subtleties of the Cognac base of Grand Marnier when
you throw lime, tequila, and salt on top of it.
And please ('nother opinion) don't start throwing strawberries and bananas
and such into margaritas! Save the fruit salad for daiquiris.
