I am looking for a news reader that will combine the interface of
"vnews" with the kill file maintenance of "rn", and perhaps provide
other features (such as article selection from a list) as well. I
recall a program called "vn" that might be suitable, but we don't
have it here. Can anyone recommend a good reader, and tell me where
I can acquire the source? E-mail, please. Thanks in advance.

To elaborate, Gnews uses the screen interface of GNU Emacs to provide both spooled access to local news directories (ala rn) and NNTP access to remote news directories (ala rrn). Elaborate "kill-file" setups are provided, and in the GNU Emacs philosophy, it is also well documented with hooks to modify *anything* you don't like. Searching and sorting by subject title are built-in. Full source is available via FTP from ucbvax.berkeley.edu (mail weemba@garnet.berkeley.edu for help). I'm converted. I heard tell of a news reader that does not take up 40k in one's home directory... named NEWSORDER or some such. I am getting sick of waiting for rn to configure itself around 900+ news groups and having 40k of .oldnews and .newsrc (plus .rnsoft, .rnlast, .newsinfo)... Anyone out there know of this NewsOrder? I would appreciate any info on ANY news reader that optimises .newsrc etc. Thanx in advance! --
