We have an Integrated Solutions 68020 machine which is being used for theoretical astrophysics calculations. Our users desire software to be able to plot and examine the model results. Many of the results are 3-d so the software must handle this. We already have plot10 software and gnuplot and have access (on another system) to the NCAR package but we want to explore if there is other useful stuff out there. Specifically, we know we can buy GKS and DI-3000 packages which already run on ISI equipment. However, none of us know anything about these packages. Would people who know anything about these packages please E-MAIL to me why they would choose one of these over the other, WHY (this last question is very important since we want an informed decision), and things we should consider in choosing a package. Also, there seems to be basic and extended versions of both these packages -- how do each of these differ? Can you suggest another, more suitable graphics package? Our level of knowledge on the subject of graphics packages is quite low so please take that into account in your answers. PLEASE do not burden the whole net with your replies but instead send e-mail. Thanks in advance. -- Anita Cochran uucp: {noao, ut-sally, ut-ngp}!utastro!anita arpa: anita@astro.as.utexas.edu snail: Astronomy Dept., The Univ. of Texas, Austin, TX, 78712 at&t: (512) 471-1471
