I have been working with X windows version 10 for a while and now I hear rumors about some new things that will be available in X version 11. So can someone tell me how far along is X11? When is it planned for release? And can I get a spec of it now? I would really like some info on X11 before I do anymore major X development work. I don't have a name to contact at MIT for information, so any help would be greatly appreciated. -- Bruce A. [] V11 will be available for alpha release in Feb 87, and beta March 87. I don't expect a final release until June. I don't know exactly what you are doing with X (porting the system or writing apps?) but if you are writing apps, it is rumoured that V10 will be supported. if you are porting the system, it is supposedly completely rewritten. for good reason. it couldn't be much more convoluted, but it is the best PD window system for unix. (only?) Also, if you are an app writer, you might want to contact MIT or HP and ask about Xrlib. It is available for v10r4 and is a GEM/MS-WIND/MAC like library package. user-interface generators (e.g. GEM RCS) will be avail. at some in the future. -- jdm
