[comp.graphics] Looking for companies who have attained GKS certification

thom@hpfcdq.UUCP (02/17/87)

It is my understanding that Precision Visuals, Inc. (PVI) has gotten their
GKS package certified by GMD.

For some reason I think Nova Graphics Internationals has also been certified,
but I'm not as sure about that.

While you are on the topic of certification *base not drift alert*:

1. Do you find that many folks really care about the certification? It
ain't cheap to get certified (I've heard figures like $10,000) and the
life of the certificate is rather limited (one year).

2. Have you heard about the European wide GKS certification being done
by the National Computing Center (Manchester, U.K.)? This testing service was
formed by the CEC (not sure what that stands for, but I think it is some
branch of the European Common Market for the computer industry). I think
they took the test software that GMD is using and considerably refined it.
It isn't clear how the NCC certification is going to relate to the GMD
certification. The GMD certification is useful in the FRG, but I don't
think it is, or will be, honored outside of the FRG.

There are all sorts of nifty discussions that could be started up about
certifying implementations of standard graphic systems, but I won't bother
to ramble on here if folks aren't all that interested.
