A colleague of mine who does not have access to Usenet is interested in displaying a portion of the earth's surface with a radius of a few miles to a maximum of about 1,000 miles. He has available a graphics package with 3-D projection routines. He will probably show the curved surface by means of contour lines. At this point it is not necessary to have a geographic map of land forms, just contour lines or possibly a shaded surface. However, at some time a map may be desired. Due to the relatively small amount of curvature associated with these radii it may be necessary to exaggerate the curve for effect. If you have information about algorithms to model the earth's curvature or already have some software that does this please contact me. I will relay to him. Any help is greatly appreciated. ------------------------------------------------------------- Gary R.
