[comp.graphics] VAX GKS

rassilon@eddie.MIT.EDU (Brian Preble) (06/17/87)

I would like to thank those of you who answered my original query. It would
appear that GKS is the way to go for future projects but my current task has
an audience of one large company who's machines run both GKS and UIS so there's
no problem with portability. The only thing I know of that GKS supports and
UIS doesn't is the ability to define the cursor as a "rubber band" box that
stretches between the pointer and the point where it was defined. This in
itself is almost enough to warrant my rewriting the UIS code as it would
speed the "Zoom in on Area" routines immensely. However, from what I've
heard GKS seems to have an excessive amount of verbiage to do even the simplest
tasks. (But then again, I need 5 UIS calls if I want to display text in a
color, size, or font other than the current settings.)

At any rate, thanks for the advice,
