The following is a reply I sent to someone in Sweden who enquired about SIGGRAPH local groups and the educational discount for SIGGRAPH course notes. My reply was bounced by the mail system after a number of hops, so I'm posting it in the hope that he will see it in the news group. I think the information is of sufficient general interest that it deserves to be in the news group, although some of it has appeared before. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes, there are SIGGRAPH local groups outside of the US. Be warned, however, that they pose many difficulties (mostly political). A local group is intended to be a group of people in a single city. We have requests to have local groups cover entire countries in Europe. SIGGRAPH doesn't like to do this. If you wish to participate next year for a set of course notes, contact Steve Cunningham (I have forwarded your request to him) to get into the educational directory. You will be asked to pay the discount ("at cost") price for the notes plus shipping charges to Sweden for the SIGGRAPH '88 course notes. There is a group called the International Federation for Computer Graphics, which is attempting to include all computer graphics groups. SIGGRAPH does not have a formal relationship, but does send a representative to their meetings. Here is an address. Mark Sneddon Secretariat International Federation for Computer Graphics P. O.
