[comp.graphics] modeling software advice sought

rion@wdl1.UUCP (Rion Cassidy) (08/21/87)

We here at Ford Aerospace have been looking into several different
software packages on the market that will provide a high level
programming environment for 3-D solid modelling in real time. Our
machine is an IRIS 3120. The limitations we have run up against so
far are very high prices ($55K) and machine incompatibility (e.g. we
don't have enough bit planes on our machine).

One product that looks promising is made by a (small) company called
"Flying Moose Systems and Graphics Company, Ltd."; they make a product
called "HOOPS" which, as they describe it, does almost exactly what we
need it to and is fairly inexpensive ($3000). The problem is that
this company is new and we have no previous experience with them. We
would also like to think that they'll be around a year from now to
support their product(s).

If anyone out there has had experience with Flying Moose we would
appreciate hearing from you. Also, if you happen to know of any other
software that might meet our needs, we would really appreciate your
advice there as well. Please E-mail!!

Thanks in advance for your help.
