The response to the IM Raster Toolkit has been overwhelming. For those of you who either missed the first announcement, or are still interested in receiving copies of the tech report or software, read on. Overview (if you missed the June posting): The toolkit is a set of 40+ tools for performing raster and image processing operations, where rasters are of arbitrary dimension and pixel definition. Thus, most tools take one or more universal IM files for input and produce the same for output. The tool interface is via UNIX (using pipes). The C-based code is performance-tuned and works without source changes on machines of arbitrary internal integer byte ordering. The format also supports data compression. The package also includes tools for reading and writing IM rasters to/from such hardware as the Adage/Ikonas, Iris, RasterTech, X-windows, Postscript, Atari/ST, Macintosh and Imagen/Impress. Examples of tool invocation and sample output appear in the technical report (U of Waterloo CS-86-65), the proceedings of Graphics Interface '86 (Vancouver) and the latest issue of "IRIS UNIVERSE" (Summer '87). Ordering Instructions: Copies of the software a/o seventy page technical report (which includes a systems description, code examples and all man pages), may be ordered from: IM RASTER TOOLKIT c/o Computer Graphics Laboratory University of Waterloo Waterloo, Ont. N2L 3G1 CANADA Parties wishing a mag tape distribution of sources should enclose $75 CDN (or $50 US) for a 1600 bpi mag tape and shipping charges. PLEASE do not ship magnetic tapes -- this means two trips through Customs, plus the hassle of getting return Canadian postage from outside of Canada. University policy says you must include a signed letter with your order which includes the statements: [1] you are aware that the Computer Graphics Laboratory cannot undertake to support software such as the IM raster toolkit [2] The package will not be further distributed without express written permission of the University of Waterloo [3] you agree to acknowledge the use of the software in any published work arising from its application Inquiries may be addressed to me directly (AWPaeth%watCGL@Waterloo.CSNet) /Alan Paeth
