There was posting not too long ago asking about drawing "good" circle approximations on raster devices. I don't think anyone posted a reference. M. D. McIlroy, Best Appriximate Circles on Integer Grids, TOG, 2:4, October 1983, pp. 237-263.

For drawing circles, see recent Dr. Dobbs Journal. It has several
algorithms for drawing a circle; some very good, some very bad, most
in between.
